Savannah Now: ATL Bake Sale for Racial Justice
“What started out as a conversation about racial justice between Savannah’s Cheryl Day and fellow pastry chefs Lisa Donovan and Sarah O’Brien has quickly spread to community involvement in 200 cities across the South with the creation of the Southern Restaurants for Racial Justice Coalition.
Aside from the dozens of establishments that participated around the South, Atlanta restaurateur Anne Quatrano also helped to organize a bake sale in Atlanta with hundreds of participating restaurants, which Day said was widely successful and will serve as a model for future bake sale fundraising events. The money raised from the June 21 bake sale, just shy of $100,000 was donated to Color of Change.”
